KLÄTTERMUSEN MAXIMUM SAFETY FOR YOU, MINIMUM IMPACT ON NATURE

Hur stort är en produkts miljömässiga avtryck
The ECO-index states the degree of impact a product has on the environment and will be a measure of the product’s ecological footprint. The calculations include whether the product can be recycled, how environmentally-friendly the impregnation is and other factors.
In order to produce the ECO-index Klättermusen has established ten environmental criteria against which each product is assessed in order to calculate a percentage. The percentage states how far there is to go until the product is entirely environmentally-friendly; the idea is that it will be easier for consumers to compare products.
How it works: The ECO-index includes ten criteria, such as the life of the product, environmental-friendliness of the impregnation and membrane, biodegradability, whether it is manufactured from natural non-fossil materials, whether it can be recycled in an existing system and so on.
The product receives one point for each criteria it fulfils; the points are added up and assessed against the potential maximum points to obtain a percentage. For example, the Brede jacket gets 57 percent, which means there is 43 percent remaining until it fulfils all the environmental criteria.
The ECO-index is also calculated as an average for each collection. Klättermusen has produced retroactive indexes for collections from 2006 onwards, showing an improvement from 23.7 percent to 61.2 in the four years that are included. This means that the ECO-index also measures how effectively the company is carrying out its environmental work. More information is available on Klättermusen’s website.
